The Low-Dimensional Chemistry consortium brings together leaders in the fields of nanoscience, nanofabrication, bionanotechnology, photosynthesis, polymer chemistry, surface chemistry and analysis, biophysics, scanning probe microscopy and polymer physics.

The University of Sheffield

The University of Sheffield

The project is led from the University of Sheffield and involves members of the Department of Chemistry, bringing expertise in

  • nanofabrication

  • nanometre scale analysis

  • polymer chemistry

  • surface chemistry and analysis

  • molecular biology and biotechnology (photosynthesis, biophysics, scanning probe microscopy)

The project also involves members of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, with expertise in

  • scanning probe microscopy

  • polymer physics

  • nanomechanics

The project is allied to Project Sunshine, a University-wide initiative that aims to harness the power of the sun to tackle the biggest challenge facing the world today: meeting the increasing food and energy needs of the world’s population in the context of an uncertain climate and global environment change.

Project management for the project is provided by the Polymer Centre, the largest grouping of polymer scientists in a single institution in the UK, and the University's Science Gateway, which unites academic experts from our Faculty of Science with colleagues from the public and private sectors to help develop new products, processes and services.
